So, you gotta deal with some cool originals and interesting covers of For Your Love, Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On and fine take on Looking Back, Slow Down and stuff. Dig!!!

ALL NIGHT SOUL STOMP!

$

A collection of rare, hard to find 1960s soul 45s from Belgium's Stomp Records, All Night Soul Stomp! breaks out of the speakers like a big truck hitting all the gears on a straightaway, then never lets up through 24 tracks of solid, hard-hitting soul that makes Sam & Dave sound calculating. Nothing is very polished here, but these sides explode on a kind of ragged, loose energy that is the very definition of hard soul. There is so much to like here, including "You Better Check Yourself" by Soul Brothers Six, "Mish Mash Soul" by the Combo Kings, the rushing, double-timed "New York City Baby" by Billy Hambrick, the atmospheric "One More Hurt" by Phil Flowers, and the loose-as-a-goose (complete with a honking alto sax) "Boogaloo #3" by Roy Lee Johnson. The energy never lets up, making this a wonderful addition to anyone's soul library. [Steve Leggett]

Dancefloor Boogaloo Romp! Yes it is baby... all the way. KILLER R&B/Soul stomp collection in the series of real cool rare soul comps as Downtown Soulville, Show Me What You Got, Shakin' Fit, Pow City, Whip! Wobble & Grind!, Whip It On 'Em ... More sweet soul music on Surfadelic... Mr.Eliminator got SOUL! Dig!!!

THE BEAU BRUMMELS - The Best Of Beau Brummels [1964-1968] Vinyl Rip!!!

A notch or two above The Grass Roots and The Mamas and Papas, and more than a few steps below The Byrds, the early Beau Brummels took the indulgently blissful sound of '60s San Fancisco rock into a folkier, borderline country direction (and would in fact later play solid country rock). Led by guitarist/writer Ron Elliott, the Brummels made a virtue of innocence and joyful bounce, and benefited from Sly Stone's energetic production. Hits include "Laugh, Laugh,""Sad Little Girl," and a pleasant take on Dylan's "One Too Many Mornings." There may not be much substance or invention here, but 30 years later, the Brummels still sound catchy. [Roy Francis Kasten]

Vinyl Rip of this '86 Rhino Rec. compilation, a fine overview of one of the first US answer to Brit Invasion. Folk/Pop/Baroque garage produced by early Sly Stone in 3D Surfadelic rip. Dig!

Southern Californian multi-instrumentalist Dave Myers' [famed for The Surftones' Del-Fi album, Hangin' Twenty] '66 hot rod studio project on GNP Crescendo records. Fuzz guitars, acid organs & special racing effects sometimes remind on Davie Allan stuff. Mike Curb liner notes on the back cover suggest some connections.

Lp includes "Silent Screamers" TV soundtrack of "Des Autos et des Hommes" and hits like "Speed international" [from the MGM-film Grand Prix directed by John Frankenheimer and starring James Garner, Eva Maria Saint and Yves Montand] and "Hell Racers" It's a REAL COOL & pretty RARE Hot Rod/Lounge instro slab in Spectacular Surfadelic Stereo... "Watch me swim on by, look a shark in the eye,
stay on the bottom till the tank runs dry,
underwater, swimming underwater."

One of the many Gary Usher's studio projects of hot rod/surf 60's craze [you could hear 'em on "Hot Rod U.S.A" compilation. This vocal crew rare sole Lp is kinda not so great but nonetheless pretty interesting and will appeal to Beach Boys/Hondells fans.
Expert advice: you should better start with B-side from Underwater... 'cause A-side is pretty weak [except for Lonely Girl and Goodbye Winter]. Anyways, do whatcha wanna do but... Do the Malibu!

''Yeah, down by the river
Down by the banks of the river Charles
Aw, that's what's happenin' baby
That's where you'll find me
Along with lovers, buggers and thieves''

This fine compilation came in '86 and was a reissue of '83 Rhino Rec. ''Best Of'' Lp but with different cover art [later in '89 it was issued as 18 trax CD but with somehow inferior sound]. It's a real cool overview on one of the TOP TEN U.S. 60's garage punkers.
With legendary proto-punk stuff like Dirty Water, Riot On Sunset Strip, Mr. Nobody, Mainline, Try It, Medication, Barracuda, Why Pick On Me, All Fall Down... they manage to beat the Stones at their own game.

''Frustrated Women Need To Be In By 12:00''

Ingeniously produced by Ed Cobb who wrote some of their best tunes [later on created a sound for another cult garage crew The Chocolate Watchband], The Standells went straight to the top of Garage Rock Pantheon.
This here is <360>360>Surfadelic Vinyl Rip! powerful audio assault for the best garage/punk experience. It's causing A RIOT!

''I'm going down to the strip tonight
I'm not on a stay home trip tonight
Long hair seems to be the main attraction
But the heat is causin' all the action''
