ROY HEAD AND THE TRAITS - TNT [1959 - 1962]

After moving to San Marcos in 1955, Roy Head along with San Marcos native Tommy Bolton, formed a musical group in 1957 known as The Traits/aka Roy Head and The Traits who would record and perform for the next nine years. The original group consisted of fellow high school students Head (vocals), Tommy Bolton (rhythm guitar) (1941–2003), Gerry Gibson (drums), Dan Buie (piano), Clyde Causey (lead guitar), and Bill Pennington (bass). When Causey joined the military he was replaced by George Frazier (1941–1996) just before the band started their recording career at Tanner N Texas (TNT) Recording Company, owned by Bob Tanner and located in San Antonio.[1] The Traits had several regional hits at TNT with songs such as "One More Time", "Live It Up", both released in 1959, and "Summertime Love" (1960),[2] establishing themselves in the late 1950s and the early 1960s as one of the premier teenage Texas-based rock and roll bands while playing the concert, sock hop, college and university and dance hall circuits throughout Texas. ROBERT GORDON - Are You Gonna Be The One [1981] Vinyl Rip!!!

$

Robert Gordon retains the energy and menace that he brought to his earlier rockabilly-based work, only here he aims in part for a more mature and vulnerable sound, amid the rock & roll posturing. Not that he wimps out -- there are lots of hard, solid rockabilly and country tunes here, but Gordon seems deliberately to have filled side one of the LP with such numbers as "Are You Gonna Be the One,""She's Not Mine Anymore," and "Someday, Someway," all steeped in a level of romantic angst that seems deeper than anything heard before from this artist; the effect is as intense as being in the presence of a pressure cooker that's about to blow, and some the most interesting (as well as some of the best) work of Gordon's career. Otherwise, this is a beautifully diverse album in its range of sounds, all worthwhile; in addition to his backing by the Wildcats on the rock & roll numbers, Gordon gets some superb country accompaniment from a brace of Nashville-based players and singers (who accompany him very tastefully on the ballads). Also included among the support musicians is future David Letterman-alumnus Paul Shaffer, incidentally, fresh from his work with the Blues Brothers. Among the country songs, the Dorsey Burnette co-authored "Standing on the Outside of Her Door," in particular, is one of the greatest Elvis Presley records that Elvis never recorded, and at the other extreme is "Too Fast To Live, Too Young To Die," a pounding, surging original that, had it come out a decade or more later, might've been grabbed up for a movie soundtrack. And in between is "Drivin' Wheel," a T-Bone Burnett co-written number that could almost pass for a lost Carl Perkins side. [Bruce Eder]

Kinda little bit polished [ya know 80's sound] but still pretty solid R-Billy/Pop from this legendary retro rocker 5th Lp. Someday, Someway... Dig!

A great lost treasure catched up by voodoo rhythm records.. Santa fees own legendary Jerry J Nixon with all unreleased tracks from the mid 50's to the mid 60's !!! Live rockabilly to vocal hits !!the Q recordings from New Mexico 1958-64… the great rock’n’roll swindle !!!
Born in the UK then moved to the USA in the mid 50's  and recorded several classic rock'n'roll platters for Q records in New Mexico, you here on this record his fantastic work for Q records then you have Studio out takes and last but not least Some fantastic crazy wild live recordings and radio station interviews... if you like 50's rock'n'roll and rockabilly then this is your record 14 songs rock'n'roll wild rockabilly and some ballads too from one of the most forgotten rock'n'roll heros from the 50's.. roll out the red carped for Jerry J Nixon...

There are some doubts that this is late '50s and early '60s stuff 'cause it's too well-produced, but who cares if it rocks real cool. "Regardless, this is some hot stuff, full of great hiccuppy vocals and classy lead git work on originals like "Saturday Midnight Bop,""Red Sun,""(We're Gonna) Wang Dang Doodle," more pop-oriented numbers like "Tonight" and "Miss Lonely" - which references Rick Nelson's "Lonesome Town" - and "live" covers of "Ready Teddy,""Rip It Up,""End Of The Road," and "Keep A Knockin." A brief interview clip also belies the origin of Jerry J. Nixon, since he sounds uncannily like Voodoo Rhythm label owner Beatman! Whatever the story is, and who knows when it'll be dispelled, this is some great roots rock and roll music."
So ladies and germs, here is long lost R-billy hero and... a Gentleman, Dig!!!

Hey Peoples! Believe it or not, there are 1000 RAW & WYLD  Rock'n'Roll posts on Surfadelic already, so I'm gonna celebrate that fact with one of my favorite songs [the unofficial Surfadelic Anthem] Bo Diddley's "The Greatest Lover In The World".

"I'm the greatest lover in the world
I was born just to love you, young girls
I'm the greatest lover ever seen
Hey, try me and see what I mean
I'm the first, the last, the best and the most
The women love me from coast to coast..."

Yeah, it's true baby!

DADDY LONG LEGS - Evil Eye On You [2012]

RAW 'n' WYLD Garage/Blues stompers from Brooklyn. NY, the rock n’ blues group, derives its moniker from its harmonica-blastin’ frontman. Daddy Long Legs, the aforementioned wailer, is joined by slide-guitar driving Murat Aktürk (born in Ankara, Turkey) and legendary NYC trap master Josh Styles, who attacks his kit with a whip and a maraca, although not necessarily in that order.

The trio has taken the music scene by storm, with alarms sounding throughout the East Coast and reverberating across the globe, as they cut through the mediocrity, directly into the meat of real music—from the hip and to the heart.

Within a few short months, DADDY LONG LEGS has taken to stages with the likes of the Sonics, the Flamin’ Groovies, the Hoodoo Gurus, Lenny Kaye, Andy Shernoff, the Legendary Stardust Cowboy, and Question Mark And The Mysterians. They have burned down barrelhouse backrooms, afterhours nightspots, and legendary locations like the famed Friars Club, NYC.

For fans of Chicago blues, Howlin’ Wolf, Captain Beefheart, Little Walter, Flamin Groovies, Kid Thomas and Dr. Feelgood! PLAY THE BLUES, PUNK!!!

WTF ?!? DAMN ! IT's A CRAZY BLACK VAMPIRE
Thurmon Valentine was born in West Helena, Arkansas in 1932. Inspired by Sonny Boy Williamson's "King Biscuit Time" show on KKFA, Thurmon moved to Chicago in 1950 to make music and become a performer. From 1957 to 1959 he created and performed a live show called "The Vampire" in clubs with three female co-stars out of his love for "old vampire pictures, Lugosi and all those guys". T. Valentine started his own label VAL Records in 1962. From there he released his own singles "Do the Do" and "Betty Sue," and both of his versions of "Black Power," as well as recordings from other artists. After divorcing his wife Lucille he decided to get back at her by recording the song "Lucille Are You A Lesbian," inspired by Josie Cotton's "Johnny Are You Queer." Val Records pressed 200 copies. It has become a rare and sought out 45. Most likely Lucille never heard it, but the song has become a cult favorite among lesbians.

Listen peoples! If this ain't A MUST, I don't know what is? You are already familiar with good ole Andre Williams and his all-out performance, but look... This guy VALENTINE gonna show you what furious, outta mind, black drac can do. This stuff is even funnier, more down'n'dirty and outta-control than A.W. T.Valentine gonna be your favorite Garage/R&B vampire for sure. Are you LESBIANS ?!? Dig!!!
